International tuition fees range from £14,000 to £18,000 per year for classroom-based courses, and £20,000+ for lab-based programmes like Medicine or Engineering. Living costs add £9,000–£15,000 depending on the city.
For English universities in 2025/26, the maximum tuition fee for UK/home students is £9,250 per year. Scottish students studying in Scotland pay no tuition fees. Welsh and Northern Irish students have their own fee structures.
International students generally cannot access UK government Student Loans. However, some universities offer instalment plans, and certain countries have bilateral student loan agreements with the UK.
The Student visa application fee from outside the UK is £490. You must also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which is £776 per year of study.
You must show you have enough money to cover your first year's tuition plus £1,023 per month of study (up to 9 months) for courses outside London, or £1,334 per month for London courses.
